Weather Peshawar: Snowfall Disrupts Life in Hazara Division

The severe weather conditions have blocked roads, disrupted electricity supply, and caused hardships to the locals, with the authorities working to restore normalcy and cautioning travelers to avoid unnecessary travel to mountain areas due to the risk of landslides and avalanches.

Updated :

Heavy snowfall and rainfall hit the upper parts of Hazara division for the second consecutive day, causing a sharp drop in temperatures and disrupting life in the region. The snowfall was reported in Kaghan, Siren, and Konsh valleys, as well as hilly areas of Mansehra and Kandia and Spat valley in Kohistan, blocking roads and prompting the police to deploy personnel to prevent tourists from entering snowbound areas.

The Kaghan Development Authority started clearing the road connecting Mansehra-Naran-Jalkhad route with Shogran, while heavy rainfall disrupted electricity supply to various areas of South Waziristan Lower, causing hardships to the locals. The situation is similar in Gilgit-Baltistan, where the first snowfall and rain of the winter season on February 27, 2025, ended a prolonged dry spell but also blocked roads and highways, including the Karakoram Highway and Baltistan Road.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department forecasted heavy winds, thunderstorms, and intermittent snowfalls across Gilgit-Baltistan from February 25 to March 2, prompting the local administration to caution travelers and tourists to avoid unnecessary travel to mountain areas due to the possibility of landslides and avalanches. Heavy snowfall in Astore, Skardu, and Ghanche districts resulted in up to six inches of snow, adding to the challenges faced by the locals.

The weather conditions are expected to remain challenging in the coming days, and the authorities are working to restore normalcy in the affected areas. The public is advised to exercise caution and follow the instructions of the local administration to ensure their safety.
