A Smarter Way to Stay Informed

Edge of Times - EDITOR'S CODE OF ETHICS

Updated :

At Edge of Times , all editorial staff members are committed to maintaining the highest journalistic standards. This code, drawn from established ethical practices and norms, is the foundation of our work. It ensures that we respect the rights of individuals and the public's right to know, while promoting integrity, fairness, and transparency in all our coverage. We are devoted to rigorous adherence to this Code, which applies to all editorial content, both in print and online.

Accuracy and Fairness

We strive to publish content that is accurate, fair, and free of distortion. If any inaccuracies or misleading statements are identified, we will correct them promptly and with appropriate prominence. We make a clear distinction between factual reporting, opinion, and speculation, ensuring that the context and nature of each are clear to our audience.

Right to Reply

Whenever necessary, individuals or groups who are the subject of inaccuracies in our coverage will be given a fair opportunity to respond.

Privacy

We respect the privacy of individuals in their personal lives, homes, and communications, including digital ones. We will not intrude upon private spaces without consent, and we will approach sensitive subjects, such as health or family matters, with care and respect for the individuals involved.

Harassment and Intimidation

Journalists at Edge of Times will not engage in any form of harassment or intimidation. If individuals ask to be left alone or stop being pursued, we will comply immediately. We will identify ourselves clearly when requested and uphold the principles of ethical reporting in all circumstances.

Sensitivity in Grief and Shock

We approach stories involving grief or shock with compassion, recognizing the delicate nature of these situations. Reporting will be done with care, ensuring sensitivity, particularly when covering sensitive legal matters or tragedies.

Reporting on Children

We will not interview or photograph children under 16 years of age about sensitive topics, including their welfare, without parental consent. Additionally, we will not exploit the fame or public position of a parent or guardian as justification for publicizing a child’s private life. We maintain the highest standards in protecting children’s identities, especially in cases involving sexual offenses.

Protection of Vulnerable Individuals

Victims of crime, particularly sexual assault, will not be identified or depicted in ways that may lead to their identification, unless legally allowed, and with careful consideration of their safety and dignity.

Clandestine Practices and Deception

We will not use hidden devices, unauthorized intercepts, or deceit to gather material for publication, unless it is in the public interest and no other method can obtain the same information.

Non-Discrimination

At Edge of Times, we oppose discrimination in all forms. We will not publish material that discriminates based on race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, or any physical or mental disabilities, unless it is relevant to the story being told.

Financial Integrity and Transparency

Journalists must avoid conflicts of interest. Any financial interests that might affect reporting, particularly in financial journalism, must be disclosed to editorial staff. We will not engage in or promote insider trading or market manipulation, and we will not publish stories for financial gain.

Protection of Sources

We have a responsibility to protect the confidentiality of sources and whistleblowers who provide critical information.

Ethical Handling of Witness Payments

No payments will be made to witnesses involved in active criminal proceedings unless it is necessary and justifiable in the public interest. Any such payments must be disclosed to both defense and prosecution.

Public Interest

We recognize that the public interest may, in certain cases, justify actions that would otherwise infringe upon an individual's rights. These situations include exposing crime, safeguarding public health and safety, and preventing public deception. However, we will carefully weigh the public interest against individual rights, especially when the story involves vulnerable individuals, such as children or victims of serious crime.

The principles outlined above are designed to uphold the integrity of our work and the trust our audience places in us. We are committed to serving the public with integrity and respect for both individual privacy and the wider public interest.
