Quetta Weather: Cold Wave Hits Pakistan

Updated :

A cold wave is sweeping across Pakistan, with Quetta and other areas experiencing strong winds and lower temperatures. The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a weather warning, predicting widespread rainfall and snowfall in several regions, including Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Gilgit-Baltistan.

The PMD attributes the cold weather to northeast winds, with wind speeds reaching a maximum of 29km/h and a minimum temperature of 12°C in Karachi. However, a new cold wave is expected to enter Pakistan from Balochistan on January 18, which may bring colder winds to the city by the end of January. The Met Office has predicted moderate to heavy snowfall in several areas, including Quetta, Chitral, and Gilgit-Baltistan, which may cause road closure and slippery conditions.

Flash flooding is expected in Chagai, Nushki, Kharan, Pishin, Qilla Abdullah, and Quetta due to moderate rainfall. The PMD has warned of road closures, traffic disruptions, and slippery conditions due to snowfall in areas such as Naran, Kaghan, Chitral, Dir, Swat, and others. There is also a risk of landslides and avalanches in mountainous areas, and authorities have advised tourists to exercise caution and follow safety guidelines. Farmers have been urged to adjust their activities according to the weather forecast to minimize potential losses.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department has asked local authorities to remain alert and take necessary measures to prevent any potential issues. The weather warning issued by the PMD will remain in effect from January 18 to 20, and residents are advised to stay informed and follow updated weather forecasts to stay safe.
