Former NBA star Gilbert Arenas has been arrested and charged with operating an illegal high-stakes poker ring out of his Los Angeles home, facing up to 15 years in prison if convicted of all charges.

Arenas, 43, pleaded not guilty to the charges, which include operating an illegal gambling business and making false statements to investigators. He was released on a $50,000 bond and is scheduled to go on trial on September 23. The alleged poker ring operated from September 2021 to July 2022, with Arenas hosting high-stakes games at his mansion in Encino, California.

This is not Arenas' first run-in with the law, having previously been charged with illegal gun possession in 2010. He also has a history of involvement in card games, including a 2009 incident where he brought guns into the locker room after a team flight. Arenas' attorney says he is presumed innocent and should be treated as such.

The case against Arenas is ongoing, with his trial scheduled for later this year. If convicted, he faces significant prison time and damage to his reputation. Arenas, known as "Agent Zero," played 11 seasons in the NBA and made the All-Star team three times, but his off-court activities have often made headlines.
