Cold Weather Peshawar: Chilly Grip Tightens

Updated :

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast a chilly and dry spell to prevail over the country in the next 24 hours, with hilly areas expected to experience extremely cold temperatures during morning and night hours. Meanwhile, Upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Kashmir can expect light rain and snowfall accompanied by gusty winds in the evening and night.

The PMD attributes the cold and dry weather to the continental air dominating most parts of the country. Temperatures have already plummeted, with Leh recording a low of -12 degrees Celsius on Monday. In other parts of the country, including Peshawar, the weather is expected to remain cold and dry, with Karachi being the only exception, where a slight reduction in cold temperatures is expected starting January 31.

The weather update comes as the country grapples with various other issues, including the recent Senate session, where bills were passed amid an uproar by the opposition and a walkout by journalists. Additionally, a PTI delegation met with Fazlur Rehman, while the government negotiation committee's future hangs in the balance, with talks scheduled to resume by January 31. The dialogue between the government and PTI remains stalled, and the security situation remains a concern, with five individuals killed and two soldiers martyred in a foiled attack in Qila Abdullah.

As the country navigates these complex issues, the residents of Peshawar and other affected areas are advised to take necessary precautions to stay warm and safe during the cold spell. The PMD will continue to monitor the weather situation and provide updates as necessary.
