PU 134th Convocation: Governor Announces Zero Tolerance Policy

The zero-tolerance policy against harassment and drug use, combined with efforts to improve the university's ranking and provide quality education, are expected to have a positive impact on the academic environment and the students' overall experience at Punjab University.

The University of the Punjab's Quaid-i-Azam Campus was closed on Monday, February 24, 2025, to mark the 134th Convocation, where Governor Punjab Sardar Saleem Haider Khan announced a zero-tolerance policy against harassment and drug use in universities across the province.

During the convocation ceremony, Governor Khan emphasized his commitment to creating a safe and inclusive environment for female students, stating that all female students in universities are his daughters and he wants to provide them with the same environment he would want for his own daughters. He also announced that a vice-chancellors' conference would be organized to address university problems and expressed his hope that under the leadership of Vice Chancellor Dr Muhammad Ali, the international ranking of Punjab University would improve.

Punjab University Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Ali Shah reiterated the university's zero-tolerance policy against harassment and its efforts to provide a safe environment for female students. He also announced plans to eliminate the financial deficit by the next two years through a new financial model and to bring the university among the top 500 universities globally by next year. Additionally, he mentioned that digitalization efforts are being made to improve financial and administrative matters and provide quality education.

A total of 1087 students from different departments received degrees during the convocation ceremony, including 254 MS, M.Phil, and undergraduate students who were awarded medals. The Governor distributed the medals and degrees among the students, marking a significant milestone in their academic journey.

The 134th Convocation of Punjab University served as a platform for the Governor and the Vice Chancellor to reaffirm their commitment to providing a safe and inclusive environment for students, and to outline their vision for the university's future growth and development.
