Updated :

Pakistan reaffirms its commitment to the One-China policy, while Punjab University hosts a conference to mark the 100th anniversary of the Lahore cinema industry, emphasizing the need to revive and promote the film industry.

The Foreign Office of Pakistan has confirmed that the country's policy of supporting the One-China Policy remains unchanged, dismissing reports of any potential changes as baseless attempts to undermine Pakistan-China relations. This statement was issued in response to media reports of Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi's participation in an event sponsored by an anti-China group. Meanwhile, in Lahore, a three-day International Conference on Creative Arts was held in collaboration with Punjab University, British Council, and other institutions to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Lahore cinema industry.

The conference featured industry stalwarts such as international artist Elaine Shemilt, director Syed Noor, comedian Iftikhar Thakur, and university vice chancellors. The Vice Chancellor of Punjab University, Dr. Muhammad Ali, emphasized the need to establish a film academy within the university to promote the film industry. He proposed that talented stars receive honorary PhDs and encouraged the youth to revive cinema using modern techniques.

Renowned film director Syed Noor shared his 53-year experience in the industry, witnessing its rise and fall. He praised the conference's focus on promoting filmmaking among students and called for the creation of passion among the youth to produce good filmmakers. Comedian Iftikhar Thakur stressed the importance of promoting graphic design to move forward, while former actor Dr. Ahmed Bilal emphasized the need to utilize local resources to revive the industry.

The conference aimed to provide a platform for industry experts to share their experiences and ideas, with the goal of reviving and promoting the film industry. As Pakistan continues to strengthen its strategic partnership with China, the country's creative industries, such as film and cinema, are also being revitalized through collaborations like the International Conference on Creative Arts at Punjab University.
