Guru Ravidas Jayanti: Delhi Observes Dry Day
The occasion is being marked with great fervor, as people come together to celebrate the life and teachings of Guru Ravidas, with Minister S. Harjot Singh Bains urging everyone to follow the path shown by Guru Ravidass ji and work towards fostering harmony in society, emphasizing the importance of love, compassion, tolerance, and brotherhood in society to eradicate the evil of casteism and propagate the values of humanism.

Delhi has been declared a dry day on February 12, 2025, to mark the occasion of Guru Ravidas Jayanti, prohibiting the sale of alcohol in the national capital, as multiple states observe a public holiday to celebrate the birth anniversary of the prominent figure in the Bhakti movement.
The holiday, initially scheduled for November 2024, has been upgraded to a full public holiday, with several states, including Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Haryana, and Madhya Pradesh, declaring a school holiday on February 12. Punjab Information and Public Relations and Education Minister S. Harjot Singh Bains extended warmest greetings to the people of the state on the 648th Parkash Utsav of Sri Guru Ravidass ji, emphasizing the significance of Guru Ravidass Ji's teachings.
Guru Ravidas Jayanti is being observed across various parts of north India, with the Delhi government declaring a public holiday to celebrate the birth anniversary of Guru Ravidas, who is celebrated for his powerful teachings of equality, social justice, and devotion. In Punjab and Haryana, all government offices and schools in major cities will remain closed, while the Uttarakhand government has also declared Wednesday a public holiday, with all state government offices, institutions, and educational institutions closed except the secretariat and treasury.
The list of dry days in February and March 2025 includes February 12 (Guru Ravidas Jayanti), February 19 (Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Jayanti), February 26 (Maha Shivaratri), March 5 (Maharishi Dayanand Saraswati Jayanti), March 14 (Holi), and March 31 (Eid-ul-Fitr), with public transport services, including buses and the metro, expected to operate as usual in Delhi.
