Today Weather: Heatwave to Grip North India, Temperatures to Soar
The heatwave is expected to bring extreme temperatures, but relief is expected in the form of rain and thunderstorms in some areas, with the monsoon returning to Delhi next week, and heavy rainfall predicted in Kerala, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu.

Delhi-NCR, Punjab, and several other states in northwestern India are bracing for a heatwave, with temperatures expected to reach 41-43°C during the day and 27-29°C at night, as the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) issues a yellow alert.
The heatwave is expected to last till June 11, with some areas experiencing extreme heat, while others may see light to moderate rain and thunderstorms by June 13-14, bringing relief from the heat. The IMD has forecast heavy rainfall and thunderstorms in Pune, Maharashtra, while a heatwave is expected to intensify in western Rajasthan.
Delhi is expected to experience intense heat in the coming days, with temperatures reaching 42°C on Sunday and potentially climbing to 44°C by Tuesday. The monsoon is expected to return to Delhi next week, bringing respite from the heat. Bengaluru, on the other hand, is likely to experience light showers and overcast skies for the next five days.
The IMD has also predicted a further rise in maximum temperatures by 3-4°C over the coming five days, with a heat wave expected to arrive in North West India, specifically in West Rajasthan, on June 9, and in South Punjab, South Haryana, South Uttar Pradesh, and North Madhya Pradesh on June 10. Heavy rainfall may occur in Kerala, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu in the next 3-4 days.
As the heatwave intensifies, residents are advised to take necessary precautions to stay safe, including staying hydrated, avoiding outdoor activities during peak sun hours, and wearing protective clothing. The IMD will continue to monitor the weather situation and provide updates on the heatwave and monsoon forecast.
