Gujarat Heatwave: Temperatures Soar Above Normal
The heatwave is expected to continue for the next few days, with temperatures rising by 2-3 degrees, and residents are advised to take necessary precautions to stay safe, as the air quality index remains moderate, and the weather forecast shows varying temperatures and cloud cover for the next 7 days.

Gujarat has received its first yellow alert of 2025, warning of high temperatures and humidity along the coast for five days, due to unusually high temperatures persisting since February, with temperatures in coastal regions 1.6 to 5 degrees Celsius above normal.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted that temperatures will remain high for the next 24 hours and may rise by 2-3 degrees in the coming days, with minimum temperatures also expected to rise. This is the first heatwave of the year, with summer typically beginning in March, and experts note that both January and February have seen warmer-than-usual conditions.
The impact of the Western Disturbance affecting parts of northern India may also influence the weather in Gujarat. Ahmedabad's minimum temperature dropped to 17.3 degrees Celsius on Sunday, down from 19 degrees on Friday, while the maximum temperature was 35 degrees, 2.7 degrees higher than normal. Naliya recorded the lowest minimum temperature at 13.8 degrees, and Rajkot had the highest maximum temperature at 37.5 degrees.
The weather forecast for the next 7 days shows varying temperatures and cloud cover, with the highest temperature predicted on February 27 at 33.45°C. The air quality index (AQI) is moderate at 118.0, suggesting that individuals with respiratory issues should limit prolonged outdoor activity. Ahmedabad is expected to reach a maximum temperature of 36.05°C, with a relative humidity of 20% and wind speed of 20 km/h.
As the heatwave continues, residents are advised to take necessary precautions to stay safe, including staying hydrated, avoiding prolonged outdoor activity, and taking breaks in cool, shaded areas. The IMD will continue to monitor the weather conditions and provide updates on the heatwave.
