Temperature Karachi Soars: Heatwave Alert Issued
The heatwave alert has been issued for the entire country, with temperatures expected to soar 4-7°C above normal from May 15 to 20, and the National Institute of Health has provided instructions on how to lower the temperature of patients and prevent heat-related illnesses, especially for vulnerable populations.

A heatwave is expected to grip Pakistan from May 15 to May 19, with temperatures predicted to be 4-6°C above normal in Sindh, southern Punjab, and Balochistan, and 5-7°C above normal in northern regions, affecting temperature Karachi and other areas.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department has issued a warning, advising citizens to take precautions and directing authorities to take necessary measures to avoid any untoward situations. A high-pressure system is likely to grip most parts of the country, with central and upper Punjab, Islamabad, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan expected to experience temperatures 5-7°C above normal.
The National Institute of Health has issued a heatstroke advisory, urging public and private hospitals to prepare for an increase in heat-related illnesses. Climate change and global warming are intensifying the frequency of extreme heat events in Pakistan, leading to a rise in morbidity and mortality. The health advisory has identified vulnerable populations, including the elderly, children, and those with pre-existing medical conditions, as being at high risk for heatstroke.
The Meteorological Department has also predicted a westerly weather system, which is expected to bring rain and thunderstorms to upper parts of the country on May 19-20, providing some relief from the heatwave. Citizens are advised to take necessary precautions to stay safe during this period, and hospitals are preparing to handle an increase in heat-related illnesses.
