Severe Heat Wave Alert Issued for Pakistan Amid Rising Temperatures
The heat wave is expected to affect citizens, especially vulnerable populations, and awareness campaigns are being launched to educate citizens about preventive measures. The government has taken measures to distribute water and other essential items to affected areas, and schools have been advised to alter working hours or declare early summer holidays.

Pakistan's Meteorological Department has forecasted a severe heat wave across the country from April 13-18, with temperatures expected to rise 6-8 degrees Celsius above normal in southern regions, including Sindh, Punjab, and Balochistan.
The heat wave alert has been issued by the Pakistan Meteorological Department, warning of extreme heat, dust storms, and gusty winds. The southern regions of the country are expected to experience the most severe heat wave, with temperatures rising 6-8 degrees Celsius above seasonal averages. The upper regions will see a rise of 4-6 degrees Celsius, still posing a significant threat to citizens, especially children, the elderly, and women.
To combat the heat wave, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Punjab has taken measures to distribute water bowsers, jerry cans, and umbrellas to affected areas. Awareness campaigns are being launched to educate citizens about preventive measures for heatwaves and drought conditions. Schools in Punjab have been advised to alter working hours or declare early summer holidays if excessive heat persists, in view of a potential temperature surge of 4 to 7 degrees Celsius.
The PDMA has issued directives to educational institutions and district administrations across the province, including suspending outdoor sports and activities, ensuring availability of clean drinking water, maintaining functional ventilation and cooling systems, and setting up first aid counters with staff trained in heat-related emergencies. The PDMA Director General warned that Punjab's plains would face rising temperatures starting this month, increasing the likelihood of heat strokes and dehydration.
As the heat wave alert has been issued, citizens are advised to take precautions, avoid direct sunlight, and stay hydrated to minimize the risks associated with the severe heat wave. The government and authorities are taking measures to mitigate the effects of the heat wave, but it is essential for citizens to take responsibility for their own safety and well-being during this period.
