Weather Update: Heavy Rainfall Expected in 9 States

The India Meteorological Department has issued a heavy to very heavy rainfall warning for 9 states and union territories, including Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, and Uttarakhand, for the next two days, bringing relief from a heatwave but causing waterlogging and power outages.
Affected areas are expected to experience heavy to very heavy rainfall on Tuesday and Wednesday, with thunderstorms and heavy rain sweeping across northern India. Delhi residents woke up to dark skies, howling winds, and heavy rainfall, with the Safdarjung Observatory recording 77 mm of rainfall in six hours. The maximum temperature in Delhi plummeted to 32.3 degrees Celsius, seven notches below the seasonal average.
The IMD has forecast similar weather for the days ahead, with Uttarakhand under an orange alert until May 8, and Punjab and Haryana under a yellow alert, with winds expected to whip up to 50 km/h and temperatures falling to 37°C. Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, Assam, and Sikkim are also expected to receive thunderstorms and rainfall, with some areas under orange and red alerts.
The IMD has advised people to take precautions, including staying indoors during storms and avoiding sheltering under trees, as heavy rain warning has been issued for 8 states, including Delhi, for the next 24 hours. The rain is expected to continue till May 12, bringing relief from the heat.
