Time for Unity: Bilawal to Engage PTI in Security Talks
As the country faces a surge in terrorist violence, the need for a unified response has never been more pressing. Bilawal's initiative offers a glimmer of hope for a more collaborative approach to counterterrorism, and its success will depend on the ability of all parties to put aside partisan interests and work towards a common goal.

The government has tasked PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari with engaging PTI in security talks, aiming to reconvene the Parliamentary Committee on National Security (PCNS) with full political representation to address Pakistan's security challenges.
Bilawal had urged the prime minister to reconvene the PCNS session, stressing that Pakistan's security challenges require collective responsibility. He also criticized opposition parties for prioritizing political disputes over national security. The PCNS had approved a unanimous declaration reaffirming Pakistan's commitment to eradicating terrorism and vowed decisive action against elements threatening national stability.
The government's move follows Bilawal's call for a united front against terrorism and concerns over the absence of key political parties, particularly PTI, from the recent high-level security meeting. Pakistan's government has signaled openness to PPP chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari's offer to mediate between the ruling coalition and PTI to facilitate the latter's participation in the Parliamentary Committee on National Security.
Effective counterterrorism policy requires political ownership, and consensus is essential to secure vulnerable regions and address the drivers of militancy. The government has accepted Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari's offer to mediate between the government and opposition Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), and Adviser to the Prime Minister on Political and Public Affairs Rana Sanaullah said the government has tasked Bilawal with holding talks with PTI.
The development comes as opposition parties prepare for a countrywide protest drive after Eid ul Fitr, and it remains to be seen whether PTI will respond positively to Bilawal's initiative and put the national interest above party politics. The success of this initiative will depend on the willingness of all parties to engage in constructive dialogue and work towards a united front against terrorism.
