Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has launched a Rs20 billion Ramadan package, providing Rs5,000 deposits to four million deserving families, with around 20 million people expected to benefit from the initiative, as President Asif Ali Zardari and the premier urge the nation to support the poor during the holy month.

The package, which will be distributed in the first 10 days of Ramadan, aims to provide relief to all parts of the country, with the government setting up 600 stalls to provide subsidized sugar at Rs130 per kilogram. The premier expressed satisfaction over the reduced price hike in 2025 compared to previous years and lauded the efforts of relevant authorities, institutions, and tech companies.

The government has increased the allocation from Rs7 billion last year, with the funds coming from a well-devised digital system. The prime minister also spoke about addressing corruption, including the Utility Stores Corporation, and announced plans to privatize it, as well as other government entities running into losses. The premier urged people to remember the poor and needy around them and help them according to their capacity.

The launch of the Ramadan package and the emphasis on supporting the needy reflect the government's commitment to the welfare of the Ummah and the importance of embodying patience and piety during the holy month. As the nation observes Ramazan, the government's efforts aim to provide relief and support to those in need, promoting a sense of community and social responsibility.
