Dawn News: Sindh Minister Advises Chinese Nationals
Sindh Home Minister Ziaul Hassan Lanjar has advised Chinese nationals who filed a petition with the Sindh High Court over alleged police harassment to follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) for addressing grievances, emphasizing the importance of adhering to protocols devised by the Sindh government and Chinese authorities.
The petitioners, who claimed they were subjected to unjustified detentions and restrictions on movement in Karachi and other cities, were told that their petition is not legally sound as they have no direct investment in Pakistan. The minister instructed the Inspector General of Police to form a team to engage with the Chinese Consul General in Karachi to address the issue and plans to meet with the Chinese Consul General to issue a joint statement and resolve concerns amicably.
The Sindh government has pledged to facilitate and protect Chinese investors through mutual cooperation, with the Special Protection Unit (SPU) monitoring security measures. The police have stated that they had followed standard operating procedures (SOPs) for handling Chinese nationals, including providing security and transporting them in bullet-proof vehicles. The current economic indicators in Pakistan are showing improvement, and the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) must be cautious and avoid repeating past mistakes when making decisions to boost economic growth.
The Sindh government's efforts to resolve the issue and provide a secure environment for Chinese investors are crucial for the country's economic growth and development. By following SOPs and adhering to protocols, the government can ensure a smooth and peaceful resolution to the issue, which will have a positive impact on the country's economy and relations with China.
