Ashura 2025: Pakistan Prepares for Sacred Observance

The Ruet-e-Hilal committee, Pakistan's top moon sighting body, will convene on June 26 to collect testimonies and make an official announcement regarding the sighting of the Muharram moon. Although the moon is expected to be born on June 25 at 3:31 PM, its visibility is likely to be limited, especially in South Asia and the Middle East.
The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, chaired by Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad, will meet in Quetta on June 26 to sight the Muharram moon, marking the start of the new Islamic year. Zonal Ruet-e-Hilal committees at provincial headquarters will also attend the meeting, with the final announcement on moon sighting to be made by Maulana Azad.
In preparation for the sacred observance, the Punjab Home Department has issued security directives to ensure peaceful Muharram observance, including the launch of an e-portal for monitoring processions and gatherings. This measure aims to maintain law and order during the sensitive period.
