Shaban 2025 Moon Sighting Expected on Jan 30

Updated :

The Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPRACO) has predicted that the new moon of the Islamic month of Shaban will appear on January 30, 2025, marking the beginning of a significant period in the Muslim calendar.

According to SUPRACO, the new moon will be born at 5:36pm on January 29 and will be visible at 25 hours old at sunset on January 30, assuming clear weather. The Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, led by Maulana Abdul Khabeer Azad, will meet on Thursday to identify the moon of Shaban, 1446 AH, and announce the sighting after reviewing testimonies from across the country.

The sighting of the moon will also determine the commencement of Ramadan 2025, with the exact timing dependent on visual confirmation of the moon on February 28. Additionally, the 15th night of Shaban, known as Shab-e-Barat or Berat Kandili, will fall on February 13, 2025, and is a significant event in the Muslim calendar, symbolizing forgiveness, purification, and divine mercy.

During this night, Muslims prepare by praying, fasting, and connecting with spirituality, aiming to seek forgiveness, reflect on personal growth, and strengthen community ties. The event has cultural and emotional significance, fostering empathy, gratitude, and collective faith among participants, and is observed with religious reverence across the country.

The predicted sighting of the moon and the subsequent events are expected to bring a sense of unity and spiritual renewal among Muslims in Pakistan, as they prepare to welcome the holy month of Ramadan and observe the significant night of Shab-e-Barat.
