Millennium Mall Fire Engulfs Karachi's Gulistan-e-Johar

A massive fire broke out at a shopping mall in Karachi's Gulistan-e-Johar area on Tuesday night, spreading quickly and engulfing a large portion of the building, with at least 12 fire brigade vehicles and rescue teams deployed to bring the fire under control.

The cause of the fire is currently unknown, but fortunately, no casualties were reported. Fire brigade officials declared the blaze a second-degree fire, and teams are working to contain it. This incident comes after a series of fires in Karachi, including a blaze that broke out in an electronics market building near Regal Chowk, Saddar, on Monday, which gutted shops and godowns.

In the Monday incident, firefighters from the KMC Fire Brigade and Rescue 1122 managed to control the situation after a two-hour battle, with five fire tenders, two water bowsers, a snorkel, and a Rescue 1122 fire truck deployed to the scene. Electronic items stored in the shops were completely destroyed, with no injuries reported. Chief Fire Officer Humayun Khan attributed 80% of Saddar area fire incidents to short circuits due to haphazard electrical wiring.

Another fire broke out in a residential-cum-commercial building in Karachi's Saddar area, engulfing shops and warehouses containing electronic goods. The blaze started on the mezzanine floor and spread to the third floor, causing thick smoke and difficulties for firefighters. Six fire tenders, one snorkel, and two bowsers were deployed to control the fire, which was eventually brought under control by evening.

The recent spate of fires in Karachi highlights the need for improved fire safety measures and emergency response systems in the city. The authorities must take immediate action to address the issue of haphazard electrical wiring and ensure that buildings have proper fire safety systems in place to prevent such incidents in the future.
