NADRA Introduces Dematerialized ID Card
The digital identity card will be stored on citizens' smartphones, eliminating the need for physical cards, and a pilot phase of the system is set to begin on Independence Day 2025, marking a major step towards digital identity transformation.

NADRA has launched Pakistan's first digital identity card, a significant milestone in the country's digital identity transformation, allowing citizens to store their identity cards on their smartphones through the Pak ID mobile app.
The digital verification system is expected to be integrated into the Pak ID mobile app, enabling secure and instant verification of various services. This initiative is set to launch its pilot phase on Independence Day 2025. The launch of the dematerialised ID card marks 25 years of NADRA's excellence in legal identity management and national database integration.
The authority has also announced plans to implement digital verification systems under the World Bank-funded Digital Economy Enhancement Project (DEEP). A pilot project for fully digital identity will be launched on August 14, 2025. The launch was attended by officials and dignitaries, including President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who congratulated NADRA on its achievements.
The President and Prime Minister highlighted the importance of digital solutions in driving economic growth and promoting inclusivity. The launch of the dematerialised ID card is seen as a step towards digital identity and is expected to improve efficiency and uphold the highest standards of integrity, accessibility, and citizen satisfaction.
