The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has initiated a Rs20 billion project to provide free and subsidized solar energy solutions to 130,000 households across the province, aiming to alleviate the electricity crisis and persistent loadshedding that has affected many communities.

In the first phase of the project, 32,500 households will receive free solar units, including solar panels, batteries, fans, and lights, selected through an electronic balloting system from over 2.5 million online applications. The selection process prioritized vulnerable groups such as widows, transgender individuals, and other underprivileged communities, ensuring that those in need receive the necessary support.

The project is part of the government's efforts to provide relief to communities affected by the country's electricity crisis, with a focus on low-income households registered under the Ehsaas Programme and Benazir Income Support Programme. The scheme includes the provision of solar panels, controllers, batteries, bulbs, and fans to selected households, aiming to improve their quality of life.

K-P Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur stated that the initiative aims to address power shortages in the province, providing a sustainable energy solution to households in need. The project will be implemented in two phases, with the first phase focusing on 65,000 households, and is expected to have a significant impact on the lives of residents in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa solar system initiative is a significant step towards addressing the province's energy crisis, and its success is expected to have far-reaching benefits for the community, providing a reliable and sustainable source of energy for years to come.
