India Celebrates 76th Republic Day on 26 January

As India marks the 76th anniversary of its Republic Day on January 26, the nation comes together to commemorate the adoption of its Constitution in 1950, transforming the country into a sovereign republic. This occasion is a celebration of the country's liberation from British dominion and the getters of freedom.

The significance of January 26 dates back to the 1930 Purna Swaraj movement, a pivotal moment in India's independence struggle, where the demand for complete independence was made. The Constitution, which replaced the Government of India Act (1935), serves as the framework for governance and rule of law in the country. On this day, people across India share wishes, messages, and quotes with friends and family, reflecting on their rights, duties, and the values of the Indian Constitution.

Indian President's guest of honor at the 76th Republic Day parade in New Delhi was President Prabowo Subianto, marking the first state visit since becoming president in 2024. The event also saw the participation of Indonesia, highlighting the historical ties between the two nations. Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended a warm message to celebrate the occasion, emphasizing the importance of preserving India's Constitution. The parade featured military marching contingents, cultural performances, and a push for defence sector cooperation with Indonesia.

However, the day was also marked by protests from Kashmiris, who observed it as a black day to condemn human rights violations in occupied Kashmir. Meanwhile, India and Indonesia are set to collaborate on various sectors, including healthcare, digital technology, and maritime security. Additionally, Indo-Israeli relations are also being upgraded, strengthening ties between the nations.

The parade will take place on January 26, 2025, and tickets can be booked until January 25, 2025.
