School Education Department Punjab Upscales Teacher Training

Updated :

In a significant move to enhance the quality of education, the School Education Department of Punjab has collaborated with experts from the University of Turku, Finland, to provide training to primary school teachers, aiming to make learning a more enjoyable and stress-free experience for students.

The training program, which was held at the Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Public Administration (MGSIPA) in Chandigarh, saw the participation of 296 primary school teachers. This initiative is part of the state's broader strategy to elevate its education standards to international levels, as emphasized by School and Higher Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains. The program is designed to equip teachers with effective teaching techniques, leveraging expertise from the University of Turku, Finland, to create a more engaging learning environment.

This collaboration marks a significant step forward in the state's educational reforms. Following a successful pilot program where 72 government teachers underwent a three-week training in Finland, a more extensive training schedule has been planned. This will include a mix of sessions both in Punjab and Finland, commencing with a week in Punjab and continuing in Finland. Furthermore, a two-day orientation program is scheduled from January 21 for around 300 teachers at MGSIPA, underscoring the department's commitment to upgrading the skills of its teaching workforce.

In another initiative, the School Education Department of Punjab has launched a statewide effort to trace the parents of two abandoned children, Shankar (4) and Krishna (8), who were found at Bathinda Railway Station in August 2024. Through a collaborative effort with the Social Security Department and schools, the department aims to reunite these children with their family, highlighting the department's multifaceted approach to supporting not only education but also the welfare of children in the state.
