BIEK Postpones Intermediate Exams to May 5 for Science Students
The BIEK's decision affects thousands of students in Karachi, who will now have to adjust their study schedules and exam preparations accordingly. The awarding of grace marks and the postponement of exams are expected to have a significant impact on the students' performance and overall experience.

The Board of Intermediate Education Karachi (BIEK) has postponed the annual intermediate examinations for 2025, originally scheduled to start on April 28, to May 5, affecting students in Science, Pre-Medical, Pre-Engineering, and Science General groups. The decision comes after a special committee recommended awarding grace marks to students in key subjects like Physics, Chemistry, and Biology.
The postponement is due to the ongoing process of awarding grace marks in mathematics, chemistry, and physics for the 2024 first-year science pre-medical, pre-engineering, and general science groups. This development aims to provide relief to students who may have struggled with these subjects. Furthermore, several examination centres are still occupied with matriculation exams that began on April 8 and are set to continue until May 8, necessitating adjustments to maintain the exam system's organisation and ensure centre availability.
The Sindh government's Department of Universities and Boards has also issued a notification granting grace marks to students appearing in the Intermediate Part-I (Pre-Medical and Pre-Engineering) annual examinations of 2024. The notification awards 15% to 20% grace marks in key science subjects, providing additional support to students. This move is expected to benefit students in the Science, Pre-Medical, Pre-Engineering, and Science General groups, who will now have more time to prepare for their exams.
The postponement of the intermediate exams to May 5 will provide students with additional time to prepare and adjust to the new exam schedule. The BIEK's decision to award grace marks and postpone the exams demonstrates a commitment to supporting students and ensuring their success in key subjects like Physics, Chemistry, and Biology.
