The Sindh Education Department has announced summer vacation for all schools and colleges in the province, effective from June 1 to July 31, in response to the intense heatwave sweeping the country, aiming to protect children from heat-related illnesses.

The decision comes after the provincial government declared summer holidays from May 19 to July 25, and is in line with other provinces, including Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab, which have also announced summer vacation schedules for their schools. In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, public and private schools will observe summer vacations from June 15 to August 31, except for upper districts which will have a shorter break from July 1 to July 31.

In Punjab, summer vacations have been declared from May 28, with revised school timings observed from 7:30am to 11:30am effective from May 21. The Punjab government has decided to give the summer vacation a few days earlier than the scheduled date of June 1 due to the extreme heatwave. Safety instructions have been issued by the concerned departments, advising students to protect themselves from the effects of the blistering weather.

The announcements come as another heatwave is forecasted from May 20 to May 24, with day temperatures expected to soar to 4 to 7 degrees Celsius above normal. The decisions to announce summer vacations are a precautionary measure to ensure the safety and well-being of students and staff in the face of the ongoing heatwave.
