The film, directed by Laxman Utekar, has received positive reviews from audiences and critics, with many appreciating its grand visuals and AR Rahman's musical contributions. It has become Vicky Kaushal's highest opener, surpassing his earlier films "Bad Newz", "Uri: The Surgical Strike", and "Sam Bahadur". The film has an overall occupancy rate of 42.02% on its first day, with the highest footfall recorded in the night shows.
The film's success continued over the weekend, earning over ₹116 crore in its first three days. On its opening day, the film collected ₹31 crore, the highest for any Valentine's Day film, breaking Gully Boy's record. It saw a 19.35% jump on Saturday, bringing in ₹37 crore, and a 27% increase on Sunday, earning between 49-51 crore. The film's total three-day collection stands at ₹116.5 crore net.
With its impressive box office performance, Chhaava is now close to surpassing Raazi as Vicky Kaushal's second-highest-grossing film, with a mere 77 lakh needed to achieve this milestone. It is also on the verge of becoming the highest-grossing Hindi film of 2025, with a gap of just one day and 10.98 crore to surpass Sky Force. The film's success is a testament to the power of good storytelling and the appeal of historical action films in Bollywood.
