Zimbabwe's opening batsman Brian Bennett has been ruled out of the ongoing first Test match against South Africa due to a mild concussion, and will be replaced by Prince Masvaure as a concussion substitute. Bennett was struck on the helmet by a delivery from South African pacer Kwena Maphaka, forcing him to retire from the game. At the time of the incident, Bennett was batting at 19 runs from 28 balls.

The injury occurred in the sixth over of Zimbabwe's first innings, when Bennett attempted to hook a vicious delivery from Maphaka. Medical staff assessed him and diagnosed a mild concussion, adhering to concussion protocols that prevent him from further participation in the game. Prince Masvaure has taken Bennett's place in the team, as Zimbabwe looks to respond to South Africa's massive total of 418/9.

South Africa's debutant Lhuan-dre Pretorius scored 153 runs off 160 balls, while Corbin Bosch contributed a century. Zimbabwe's response to the total was poor, losing early wickets, but they staged a fightback in the latter part of the first session, with Craig Ervine and Sean Williams stitching a crucial 91-run partnership. However, South Africa's Codi Yusuf and Keshav Maharaj kept the pressure on, with Maharaj eventually breaking the stand by taking Ervine's wicket and completing his 200th Test wicket.

Zimbabwe's task is uphill against a strong South African team, and they will need to bat well to avoid a significant deficit. With Prince Masvaure replacing the injured Brian Bennett, Zimbabwe will hope to stabilize their innings and put up a strong fight against the South African bowling attack.
