Pakistan Earthquake Strikes Again, Multiple Quakes Hit Country

The earthquakes have highlighted the need for disaster preparedness and emergency response measures in Pakistan, given its location on the boundary of the Eurasian and Indian tectonic plates, making it prone to destructive earthquakes.

A series of earthquakes struck Pakistan, with the most recent being a 4.5 magnitude quake on Sunday morning, following a 5.2 magnitude quake earlier in the day, and a magnitude-5.3 earthquake that damaged houses and injured people in Balochistan.

The recent tremors have raised concerns about the potential for aftershocks and stronger ground shaking, given the shallow depth of 10 kilometers at which they occurred. Pakistan's location at the intersection of the Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates makes it highly susceptible to powerful earthquakes. The country has experienced several major earthquakes in the past, including a 7.5-magnitude quake in 2015 and a 7.6-magnitude quake in 2005 that killed over 73,000 people.

The magnitude-5.3 earthquake that struck Balochistan on Sunday morning damaged over half a dozen houses and caused cracks in many others in the Rara Shaim area of Barkhan. At least three people, including a couple, were injured and have been admitted to the hospital. The earthquake's epicentre was located almost 60 kilometres north-northeast of Barkhan city.

The Pakistani authorities are closely monitoring the situation, and further details are awaited. The country's seismically active nature means that earthquakes can occur at any time, and it is essential for the authorities to be prepared to respond to such disasters.
