Today Weather: Mumbai Faces Heavy Rains and Flooding

The heavy rainfall has already started affecting traffic and transport, with flash flooding reported in several areas. The city's authorities are working to mitigate the effects of the flooding, but residents are advised to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety.

Mumbai is experiencing its first significant monsoon showers in weeks, with the India Meteorological Department issuing a yellow alert for the city, indicating heavy to very heavy rain, and a red alert for Raigad and Ratnagiri due to the possibility of extremely heavy rain.

The heavy monsoon rains are expected to continue until at least June 18, with the Konkan region experiencing heavy to very heavy rainfall until June 16. Mumbai is expected to experience heavy rainfall until Tuesday morning, after which only moderate rainfall is anticipated. The revival of showers is attributed to upper air cyclonic circulation and troughs, with the monsoon trough playing a crucial role in bringing heavy downpours.

Key flood-prone areas include King's Circle, Hindmata, Masjid Bunder, and Crawford Market, among others. The BMC has deployed 514 dewatering pumps, up from 482 last year, to tackle the situation. Local trains are operational, but with some delays and cancellations, particularly on the Central and Harbour lines. Commuters are advised to avoid flood-prone roads, check live train updates, and be prepared for delays.

Meanwhile, independent weather forecasters predict another wet spell next weekend, adding to the city's woes. As the city struggles to cope with the heavy rainfall, residents are bracing themselves for a challenging week ahead.
