Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has strongly condemned the Israeli attack on Iran, stating that Pakistan will safeguard Iran's interests at all international forums, including the United Nations, as world leaders gather at COP27 to discuss global warming solutions.

The 27th Conference of the Parties (COP27) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) is currently underway in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt, where world leaders, climate experts, and activists have gathered to discuss ways to address the pressing issue of global warming. However, the recent Israeli attack on Iran has shifted the focus towards regional tensions and the need for international cooperation to prevent further escalation.

Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, Chairman of the Pakistan People's Party (PPP) and former foreign minister, has also warned that Pakistan cannot afford a conflict with Iran to escalate into a larger war. He emphasized that Pakistan will continue to advocate for peace on all its borders, including with Afghanistan, Iran, and India. The statements from Bilawal and Asif come amid rising tensions between Iran and Israel, with both countries exchanging missiles.

The situation has sparked concerns that it may spiral out of control, with the US potentially joining in the defence of Israel. Pakistan's Foreign Office has advised its citizens to avoid non-essential travel to Iran and Iraq due to escalating regional tensions. The Pakistani government has activated a 24/7 Crisis Management Unit to ensure the safety and security of its nationals and pilgrims in Iran.

As the situation continues to unfold, Pakistan's leadership remains committed to promoting peace and stability in the region. The country's participation in COP27 serves as a reminder of the need for global cooperation to address pressing issues like climate change, while also highlighting the importance of regional stability and security.
