The University of Alaska Fairbanks has announced a five-year contract extension for volleyball head coach Brian Scott, who has led the team to historic success, including a 21-7 overall record and a 13-5 mark in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference (GNAC) in the 2024 campaign.

Scott, who has been at the helm for 10 seasons, has amassed a 116-143 career record, including a 71-49 mark over the last four seasons. The team's performance in 2024 set a new benchmark for the highest winning percentage in Alaska Nanooks volleyball history and secured a second-place finish in the GNAC standings. This extension signals a strong commitment to the program's growth and competitive excellence under Scott's leadership.

The contract extension comes as the University of Alaska Fairbanks is undergoing a transition in leadership, with Chancellor Dan White announcing his retirement effective July 26, 2023, after 8 years at the helm. White will be succeeded by an interim chancellor, with the permanent position to be filled through a search process. Under White's leadership, UAF's external research portfolio more than doubled to over $200 million annually.

The volleyball team has also seen success in recruiting, with two true freshmen and two transfers from NCAA Division I programs joining the team in 2025. This influx of new talent is expected to further bolster the team's competitiveness and chances of success in the coming seasons. With Scott at the helm, the team is poised to continue its upward trajectory and make a strong push for conference and national honors.

The contract extension is a testament to Scott's dedication and commitment to the program, and the university's confidence in his ability to lead the team to even greater heights. As the team looks to build on its historic 2024 campaign, the extension provides a sense of stability and continuity, and sets the stage for an exciting future for Alaska Nanooks volleyball.
