Bangladesh National Cricket Team Updates: Mushtaq Extension

The Bangladesh national cricket team is undergoing significant changes, with Mushtaq Ahmed's contract extension and the announcement of new player contracts. The team's performance in upcoming tournaments will be closely watched, and the expertise of Mushtaq Ahmed is expected to benefit the team's spin bowling department.

Updated :

Bangladesh Cricket Board officials have confirmed that spin consultant Mushtaq Ahmed is likely to receive a two-year contract extension, with the deal expected to be finalized soon. As part of the role, Mushtaq will act as the board's spin consultant and work with the national team, as well as other areas such as the High Performance Unit and other programs.

Mushtaq joined Bangladesh in 2024 as spin bowling coach and later returned to the team ahead of the T20 World Cup. He has previously held similar roles with England, West Indies, and Pakistan. The extension is a significant development for the Bangladesh national cricket team, as Mushtaq's expertise is expected to benefit the team's spin bowling department. He will work 130 days a year in this capacity, providing valuable guidance to the team's spinners.

In other news, Bangladesh all-rounder Mahmudullah has announced his retirement from One-Day Internationals (ODIs) at the age of 39. The decision comes after he had already retired from Test and T20I cricket. Mahmudullah expressed gratitude to his teammates, coaches, family, and fans in a Facebook post, thanking them for their support throughout his career. He holds the fourth-highest run-getter spot in Bangladesh's ODI history with 5689 runs at an average of 36.46, including four hundreds and 32 fifties.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has also announced 22 players for national playing contracts for 2025. The list includes most players from the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. All-rounder Mahmud Ullah has opted out of the contract, while Mushfiqur Rahim will be placed in Grade B from March 2025, and wicketkeeper Parvez Hossain Emon is omitted. The contract list reflects the BCB's focus on developing a strong team for future tournaments.

The developments in the Bangladesh national cricket team are expected to have a significant impact on the team's performance in upcoming tournaments. With Mushtaq Ahmed's extension and the new contract list, the team is poised to make a strong comeback in the international cricket scene. Fans and supporters will be eagerly watching the team's progress in the coming months.
