Mike Hesson Emerges as Strong Contender for Pakistan Coach Role
The Pakistan Cricket Board's search for a new head coach has garnered significant attention, with Mike Hesson emerging as a top contender. As the PCB looks to appoint a new coach, the team's performance in upcoming international tournaments will be closely watched, particularly with the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 on the horizon.

Former New Zealand head coach Mike Hesson is in talks with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to become the new head coach of the Pakistan national team, replacing Aaqib Javed, who decided not to continue in the role. Hesson was approached by the PCB again after declining a similar offer last year due to prior commitments.
Hesson has a wealth of experience coaching in the international arena, having led the New Zealand team from 2012-2019 and also coached in the Indian Premier League (IPL). The PCB is considering a foreign coach as local options are limited, and Hesson is seen as the frontrunner for the role. The PCB has set a deadline of May 4 for applications, and applicants must hold a Level 3 coaching certification.
The search for a new permanent head coach began after Aaqib Javed decided not to continue in the role. Javed was appointed as the interim head coach in November last year and was given an extension for the national team's white-ball tour of New Zealand, which concluded earlier this month. The new head coach will be responsible for leading the national team in international tournaments, including the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
The PCB is seeking a Level III qualified coach with a minimum of 10 years of experience in coaching national or domestic level cricket teams. With Hesson's experience and qualifications, he is a strong contender for the role, and his appointment could be a significant boost for the Pakistan national team.
