A severe heatwave is expected to grip Pakistan, including Lahore, from May 20 to May 24, with day temperatures rising 4-7 degrees Celsius above normal, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).

The PMD has issued an advisory, warning citizens of dust storms and gusty winds at isolated places due to excessive heating, and advising them to avoid direct exposure to the sun from 11am to 4pm and remain hydrated. The heatwave is expected to increase the rate of snowmelt on glaciers in northern areas, and farmers are advised to manage their crop-related activities and take care of their livestock.

The highest temperature recorded in the past 24 hours was 48°C in Dadu and Jacobabad, and the PMD has urged citizens to take necessary precautions to stay safe during the heatwave. Meanwhile, health experts are also warning about the growing health risks associated with excessive screen time, and are advising people to limit screen time, especially during the heat wave, and stay indoors during peak heat hours.

As the temperature in Lahore and other parts of Pakistan continues to rise, it is essential for citizens to take necessary precautions to stay safe and healthy. By following the advisories issued by the PMD and health experts, people can minimize the risks associated with the heatwave and excessive screen time.
