BMC Issues Notice to Mithun Chakraborty Over CTS Violations
The BMC's crackdown on illegal constructions and CTS violations is part of a larger effort to address the issue of forged maps and unauthorized buildings in the city, with a focus on ensuring compliance with municipal building regulations and protecting the rights of legitimate property owners.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has issued a show-cause notice to actor Mithun Chakraborty for allegedly constructing an illegal ground-plus-mezzanine floor structure at his property in Erangal, Malad, violating city title survey (CTS) regulations.
The notice, dated May 10, warns Chakraborty to provide a satisfactory explanation for the construction or face action at his own cost and risk. The notice lists out several structures, including two ground floor structures with mezzanine floors and three temporary units, constructed without permission. This is not the first time Chakraborty has received a BMC notice for such a matter, with a similar notice being issued in 2011.
The BMC has stated that 101 illegal structures will be demolished by the end of May, including the 14 structures demolished on May 13-14 in Erangal and Valnai. The demolition drive began on May 9 and is expected to be completed by May 31. A total of 101 notices have been served to 123 unauthorized buildings on 84 remaining CTS plots. The issue dates back to 2022 when a Special Investigation Team (SIT) was formed to investigate complaints of map forgery.
The SIT found forgery in 101 CTS maps out of 200 surveyed in Malad. The forgery was detected in Madh, Erangal, Malvani, Vanrai, and Kurar areas. A total of 165 CTS plots were found to have tampered maps across the city, with 158 plots having forged maps. The state government had appointed a committee in 2022 to verify complaints of map tampering.
Chakraborty has denied the allegations, stating that he has not carried out any illegal construction. The BMC has warned that if a satisfactory response is not received within the stipulated time, legal action will be taken and the illegal construction may be demolished.
