Indo Pakistan War: Brave Soldier Poonam Singh
The bravery displayed by Singh during the Indo-Pak war has become an integral part of the region's history, inspiring future generations to defend the nation's borders with courage and determination, highlighting the significance of the Bhuttewala border checkpost in the war.

Poonam Singh, an Indian soldier, made the ultimate sacrifice in 1965 while defending the Bhuttewala border checkpost against an attack by 60 Pakistani Rangers during the Indo-Pak war, ensuring Indian control over the strategic location.
The checkpost, established to monitor smuggling activities and prevent incursions into Rajasthan, has been a key location in the region's history. On the fateful day, Singh, along with seven fellow soldiers, bravely fought against the Pakistani Rangers, led by Afzal Khan. Despite being outnumbered, Singh showed remarkable determination and courage, even crossing into enemy lines to retrieve ammunition.
Singh's bravery and selflessness ultimately led to the elimination of the Pakistani commander, Afzal Khan, and eight other Rangers. Although he sacrificed his life in the battle, his actions allowed the checkpost to remain under Indian control. The 1965 Indo-Pak war, which lasted from August 5 to September 23, 1965, resulted in thousands of casualties and had a profound impact on the region's history.
A memorial was erected in Singh's honor, remembering his sacrifice and the history of the checkpost. The memorial serves as a testament to the bravery and sacrifice of soldiers like Poonam Singh, who have defended the nation's borders with courage and determination.
