A 6.2 magnitude earthquake struck Turkiye's Istanbul, causing buildings to shake and prompting people to evacuate, with one person injured after jumping off a balcony in a panic.

The quake occurred at 12:49 GMT, 10km deep in the Marmara Sea, off the coast of Silvri, and was followed by two more earthquakes in the same area, with the strongest measuring 6.2 magnitude. The first quake hit the Silivri district, followed by another in the same area, and a third in the Buyukcekmece district.

Emergency authorities have begun assessments and warned against entering damaged buildings, as residents gathered outside after the quake, with reports of lamps crashing to the floor due to the intense shaking of buildings. Fortunately, there were no immediate reports of casualties, but the incident has raised concerns as Turkey continues to recover from devastating earthquakes that hit southern Turkey in 2023.

The Turkish authorities are on high alert, and rescue teams are ready to respond to any potential emergencies. The earthquake has served as a reminder of the importance of disaster preparedness and the need for continued support and aid to those affected by the 2023 earthquakes.
