Rana Sanaullah: PTI Rejects Govt Offer, Shifts to Agitation Mode

Updated :

Following the breakdown of talks with the government, the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) has announced its decision to stage protests at the district level, citing alleged rigging in the last year's general elections, a move that may lead to increased political instability in the country.

The PTI's Secretary General, Salman Akram Raja, expressed his confidence that the "system" will soon realize it cannot move forward without the party founded by Imran Khan. This statement comes after Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif's offer to resume stalled talks was rejected by the party. The Prime Minister had proposed the formation of a parliamentary committee to investigate the May 9 and November 26 protests, rather than a judicial commission, which was deemed insufficient by the PTI.

PTI's Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa President, Junaid Akbar, mentioned the possibility of a demonstration at Islamabad's D-Chowk, indicating the party's intent to take their grievances to the capital. The PTI is insisting on two judicial commissions for the May 9 and November 26 events, a demand that has been turned down by the government. The federal cabinet meeting, where the prime minister made the offer, also proposed examining PTI's 2014 sit-in and two previous general elections, which was not acceptable to the PTI.

As the situation unfolds, concerns about political instability are rising. The government's attempt to address the PTI's concerns through a parliamentary committee has been rebuffed, leading to the PTI's decision to adopt an agitation mode. The coming days will be crucial in determining how the situation evolves and whether the two sides can find common ground to move forward.
