The Islamabad Food Authority has seized over 900kg of donkey meat and 50 donkeys in a raid in Tarnol, a suburb of the capital, and detained a foreign national for investigation, amid concerns about the illegal sale and distribution of donkey meat in the country.

The authority, backed by local police and district administration, conducted a raid on a farmhouse in Tarnol and found a large quantity of donkey meat and live donkeys, allegedly being supplied to the local market and exported abroad. The seized meat is being discarded, and those involved in selling or exporting donkey meat will be arrested and a case will be registered against them.

The Food Authority has urged the public to report any suspicious activities or low-quality meat to the relevant authorities, as investigations are underway to determine the distribution of the seized meat and its intended use, including possible human consumption. A case has been registered, and the detained foreign national, reportedly a Chinese national, has been handed over to police for further interrogation.

The crackdown on the donkey meat operation in Tarnol is a significant step towards ensuring food safety and preventing the illegal sale and distribution of low-quality meat in the country, and the authorities will continue to take strict action against those involved in such activities.
