Nitish Kumar Transfers Rs 271 Crore to Beneficiaries
The schemes include the Indira Gandhi National Old Age Pension Scheme, Indira Gandhi National Disability Pension Scheme, and Indira Gandhi National Widow Pension Scheme, among others, and have seen a significant increase in expenditure over the years, from Rs 9834.32 lakh to Rs 524167.02 lakh.

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has transferred a total of Rs 271.15 crore to over 62 lakh beneficiaries under various social security pension schemes and the Chief Minister Kanya Utthan Yojana, marking a significant effort to support vulnerable populations in the state.
The transfer, which was made via Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT), includes Rs 254 crore to 61.29 lakh beneficiaries under five major social security schemes, as well as Rs 16.70 crore to 85,556 beneficiaries under the Mukhyamantri Kanya Utthan Yojana. The schemes, which are supported by both the Centre and state government, aim to provide financial assistance to elderly individuals, persons with disabilities, and widows, among others.
The number of beneficiaries under social security pension schemes has seen a significant increase over the years, rising from 12.25 lakh in 2005-06 to 1.09 crore in 2024-25. This growth reflects the state government's efforts to expand the reach of these schemes and ensure that all eligible individuals can benefit from them. The social welfare department is working to raise awareness about the schemes, with the goal of maximizing their impact and supporting those in need.
The transfer of funds is a testament to the state government's commitment to social welfare and its efforts to improve the lives of vulnerable populations. With the continued support of the Centre and state government, these schemes are expected to play a vital role in promoting the well-being and dignity of beneficiaries across Bihar.
