Pakistan's attempt to internationalize the issue of rising tensions with India at a closed-door UN Security Council meeting ended without a substantial outcome, as Council members urged bilateral resolution and accountability for the Pahalgam attack.

The meeting, attended by several members, expressed concerns about Pakistan's nuclear rhetoric and missile tests, with some suggesting an independent international investigation into the attack. Pakistan's efforts to present a false flag narrative were rejected, and the Council members instead questioned the involvement of Lashkar-e-Taiba and the targeting of tourists based on their religious identity.

The UNSC expressed deep concern over the growing risk of escalation and emphasized the urgent need for restraint and de-escalation. The council members also underscored that the long-standing Jammu and Kashmir dispute was the root cause of regional instability and must be resolved in accordance with relevant Security Council resolutions and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people. Pakistan briefed the council on intelligence indicating an imminent threat of kinetic action by India against Pakistan.

The meeting ultimately failed to issue a collective statement, with the Council president not making an oral statement, a move seen as a vindication of India's stance. Congress MP Shashi Tharoor stated that the UN Security Council will not pass a resolution against either India or Pakistan due to China's veto power and India's expected opposition.
