Sonu Nigam has apologized to Karnataka after facing criticism for his remarks at a Bengaluru concert, where he allegedly made offensive comments about the Kannadiga community, leading to an FIR being filed against him.

The controversy began when Nigam declined a fan's request to sing a Kannada song and made a remark about the language, sparking outrage among the Kannada community. The Bengaluru District Police issued a notice asking Nigam to appear before the investigating officer within a week. The Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce has declared that the Kannada film industry will cease all collaborations with Nigam in any upcoming projects.

Nigam claimed that a fan humiliated him and a young person threatened him during the concert, leading to the incident. He expressed his love for Karnataka and its culture, music, and artists, and stated that he values his Kannada songs more than his Hindi tracks. He also mentioned that he always includes a set of Kannada songs in his performances in Karnataka.

Singer Shaan has expressed his support for Sonu Nigam, stating that people should be more patient and tolerant, especially in the music industry. He emphasized the importance of inclusivity and understanding, stating that music is a universal language. He also pointed out the unfairness of expecting artists to perform in languages outside their repertoire.

The police are also considering giving a list of dos and don'ts for such events to avoid controversies in the future. The case against Nigam is ongoing, with the police charging him under Sections 351 and 352 of Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita, 2023. The investigation is expected to continue, with Nigam's apology being seen as a step towards resolving the issue.
