Wheat procurement in Punjab has commenced with early arrivals in mandis, and the state is expected to reach a yield of 186.82 lakh tonnes, the highest since 2018, with the introduction of PAU's variety PBW826 contributing to the higher yield.

The state food and civil supplies department has pegged the total arrivals at 132 lakh tonnes against the target of 124 lakh tonnes, with temperatures crossing 36-37 degrees Celsius triggering the fast maturing of the crop. The arrivals were reported in Rajpura, Khanna, and Amritsar, and the average per hectare yield is expected to be 51.82 quintals.

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has approved free transportation of wheat across the province, allowing farmers to transport their produce without any charges. She commended Punjab's farmers for achieving a record wheat yield this season, praising their hard work and dedication. The government has also announced an initiative to award 1,000 tractors to wheat farmers free of cost.

The record wheat yield is a significant achievement for Punjab, and the government's initiatives to support farmers and modernize public transport are expected to have a positive impact on the state's economy and citizens. With the launch of 1,500 electric buses and the establishment of a state-of-the-art Transport Tower Command and Control Centre, Punjab is moving towards a more efficient and modern public transport system.
