The tornado's impact was felt across Western Pennsylvania, with multiple areas affected and at least 40 people killed in seven states as a result of the severe weather system, highlighting the importance of being prepared for extreme weather events and the need for continued monitoring and forecasting to minimize the risk of damage and loss of life.

A devastating EF-1 tornado tore through Acme, Pennsylvania, on Sunday, March 17, 2025, causing significant damage to homes and properties, with wind speeds reaching 86-110 mph and leaving a trail of destruction in its wake.

The tornado, which was part of a severe weather system that spawned tornadoes and large hail across the Midwest and Northeast, resulted in widespread damage, including uprooted and snapped trees, power lines, and destroyed buildings. Residents reported hearing a loud roar and seeing debris flying through the air as the storm passed through, with many describing the experience as "horrific" and saying it moved quickly, causing widespread destruction.

The storm damaged homes, garages, and vehicles, and left many without power, with one resident, Melinda Urbanic, saying she and her family were forced to take shelter in their basement as the storm hit, and their garage was destroyed, leaving their chickens without a coop. The National Weather Service confirmed that the tornado was one of at least four that touched down in Western Pennsylvania, with other areas, including Parks Township, also experiencing significant damage.

As the region recovers from the devastating storm, residents are bracing for the possibility of another active year, although the National Weather Service has suggested that this year may be less active due to unusual weather patterns last year, which saw a record 30 confirmed tornadoes in the area.
