MQM-H Chief Denies Ethnic Undertones Amidst Release
Afaq Ahmed's release from jail has sparked a renewed focus on the city's ethnic dynamics, with the MQM-H chief denying any ties to MQM London and emphasizing the importance of unity and cooperation in addressing the city's challenges.

Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Haqiqi (MQM-H) chief Afaq Ahmed has clarified that his recent statement had no ethnic undertones, denying any ties with MQM London and its founder, while also expressing satisfaction over the condemnation of his arrest.
Ahmed was released from Karachi central prison on February 25, 2025, after being granted bail in a third arson case, which was registered for allegedly instigating people to torch heavy vehicles in violation of a daytime ban. The MQM-H chief was arrested on February 11 and was booked in three cases, including two arson cases and a terrorism case.
Upon his release, Ahmed reiterated that his statement had no ethnic bias, stating that every city belongs to its people, not outsiders. He also accused the Pakistan People's Party (PPP) of worsening the city's condition along ethnic lines, citing electoral constraints. The MQM-H chief emphasized that he will speak directly to the party's founder, not through representatives.
The release of Afaq Ahmed has been welcomed by MQM-H workers, who gathered outside the prison gate to show their support. The case has highlighted the complex political landscape of Karachi, with various parties and factions vying for influence and power in the city.
