Shubman Gill Closes In On Babar Azam

Shubman Gill has jumped to the second spot in the ICC ODI rankings, trailing Pakistan's Babar Azam by just five rating points, while Indian captain Rohit Sharma is within 13 rating points of the top spot, setting the stage for an intense competition at the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy in Pakistan and the UAE.

Gill's back-to-back half-centuries against England have propelled him up the rankings, and his consistent performance has brought him closer to surpassing Babar Azam. Rohit Sharma's century in Cuttack has also helped him close the gap with the Pakistani batsman. The competition among bowlers is fierce, with just 18 rating points separating the top five, and Indian all-rounders Ravindra Jadeja and Mohammed Shami have climbed the rankings.

Other notable shifts in ODI rankings include Fakhar Zaman, Joe Root, Devon Conway, and Mitchell Santner, who have re-entered the rankings. In the bowling department, Rashid Khan, Maheesh Theekshana, Bernard Scholtz, Shaheen Afridi, and Trent Boult are closely contested in the top five. The ICC Champions Trophy is set to begin next week, and the top spot in 50-over cricket is up for grabs, making the competition even more intense.

In the Test rankings, Australian opener David Warner has re-entered the top 10, while his teammate Travis Head has surged 11 places to 18th. Sri Lanka's Angelo Mathews has jumped 14 places to 28th, and Ireland's Lorcan Tucker and Andy McBrine have made significant advancements in the Test batter and bowler rankings. Australian spinner Nathan Lyon has achieved a new career-high rating, jumping a spot to fifth position on the Test bowler rankings.

As the ICC Champions Trophy approaches, the competition for the top spot in ODI rankings is heating up, and fans can expect some thrilling matches in the upcoming tournament.
