Winter Gas Supply Plan: SNGPL Revamps Distribution Schedule
The Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) has unveiled a revised gas supply plan for winter, aimed at ensuring consistent pressure and uninterrupted gas services to its consumers. The plan, effective from November 2024, allocates gas supply to designated time slots for morning breakfast and heating, midday cooking, and dinner, serving over 7.22 million customers in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The new schedule divides the day into three segments: 6:00 AM-9:00 AM, 12:00 PM-2:00 PM, and 6:00 PM-9:00 PM. During these time slots, gas will be supplied at full pressure, aiming to meet the increased demand for gas during winter. The schedule has been revised to address the severe gas shortage affecting several areas in Lahore, including Garhi Shahu, Davis Road, Inner City, Muslim Town, Garden Town, Green Town, and Journalist Colony.
Residents of these areas, who have been facing low pressure and frequent gas shortages, are expected to benefit from the revised plan. However, SNGPL representatives acknowledge that domestic users are still facing difficulties, citing the trebling of gas demand during winter for heating and hot water needs. The MD of Sui Northern Gas Company, Aamir Tufail, emphasized the need for a survey of low-supply areas to restore normal gas pressure.
The SNGPL's new plan aims to alleviate the suffering of consumers during the harsh winter months, providing a stable supply of gas to millions of households. By catering to specific meal times, the revised schedule is poised to bring relief to families relying on costly alternatives such as LPG and firewood. As the winter season approaches, the revised plan is expected to prove beneficial in addressing the pressing issue of gas shortages in Punjab and K-P.
