Sitanshu Kotak to Boost India's Batting
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is set to appoint Sitanshu Kotak as the new batting coach for the Indian cricket team, in a move aimed at addressing the team's recent slump in Test cricket. With a strong domestic cricket background, Kotak is expected to bring valuable expertise to the team, which has been struggling with inconsistent batting performances.
Kotak, the current India A head coach, has a impressive record in First-Class cricket, scoring 8061 runs in 130 matches. His appointment is seen as a significant development, particularly given the team's recent defeats against Australia and New Zealand. The BCCI has been reviewing the performance of head coach Gautam Gambhir, and some quarters suggest that the large IPL salaries given to players may be a factor in their lack of focus on Test cricket. However, with Kotak on board, the team is expected to receive a much-needed boost in batting technique and strategy.
Kotak will join a coaching staff led by Rohit Sharma, who took charge as all-format head coach in August last year. The staff also includes Morne Morkel (bowling coach), Abhishek Nayar, and Ryan ten Doeschate (assistant coaches), and T Dilip (fielding coach). Notably, former England captain Kevin Pietersen had also expressed interest in becoming the batting coach for Team India, but it appears that Kotak's domestic experience and expertise have given him the edge. The move is seen as a significant development in the BCCI's efforts to revamp the team's coaching staff and improve its performance in international cricket.
As the Indian team prepares to face England in the T20I series starting on January 22, all eyes will be on Kotak to see how he can turn around the team's batting fortunes. With his wealth of experience and expertise, Kotak is well-placed to make a significant impact and help the team regain its footing in international cricket.
