PM Shehbaz Directs Authorities to Ensure Uninterrupted Gas Supply

Updated :

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has called for an uninterrupted gas supply to domestic consumers during the winter season, taking notice of complaints regarding reduced gas supply. This directive came during a review meeting on gas supply, attended by key officials, including the Minister of Economic Affairs Ahad Khan Cheema and Minister of Petroleum Dr. Musadik Malik.

The meeting aimed to discuss the country's gas supply structure and address concerns of scarcity. According to a briefing provided, there is a surplus of regasified liquefied natural gas (RLNG) in the system, which has improved gas load management compared to last year. This surplus has led to a decrease in the duration of gas load shedding, with domestic consumers receiving gas supply from 5 am to 10 pm. The power sector is also receiving gas as per its demand.

The prime minister emphasized the need to reform the system to permanently resolve the issue of gas supply and directed officials to take immediate action to address the complaints of domestic consumers. He stressed that gas supply to domestic consumers remains the government's top priority. The meeting was also informed that SNGPL and SSGC's online dashboards are operational to address consumer complaints, with SNGPL's complaint resolution rate standing at 93% and SSGC's at 79%.

The prime minister's directives came as many consumers are facing gas supply issues across different parts of the country amid increasing cold weather. However, the available surplus of RLNG has improved the situation, reducing the duration of gas loadshedding and ensuring a longer supply period for domestic consumers.

With the prime minister's directive, authorities are under pressure to ensure an uninterrupted gas supply to domestic consumers during the winter season. This move is likely to provide relief to the scores of people facing gas supply issues, and the government's efforts to address the issue are a step in the right direction.
