ICC Champions Trophy Uncertainty

Updated :

The participation of Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 has been thrown into uncertainty due to a back injury sustained during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, with the BCCI considering backup options in case he fails to recover in time.

Bumrah's injury has raised concerns about his availability for the upcoming tournament, and he is set to undergo a medical assessment by orthopedic surgeon Dr. Rowan Schouten in New Zealand. The BCCI is in close contact with Dr. Schouten for updates on Bumrah's condition, and a final decision on his participation will be made after receiving feedback from the doctor. Bumrah had previously undergone surgery by Dr. Schouten for a serious back injury, and the BCCI is hopeful that he will be able to recover in time.

In the meantime, the BCCI is exploring backup options in case Bumrah is ruled out of the tournament. Harshit Rana and Mohammed Siraj are being considered as potential replacements, with Arshdeep Singh already included in the team as the third pacer. The Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee is aware that a full recovery for Bumrah within the given timeline would be a "miracle", and is preparing for all possible scenarios.

The ICC Champions Trophy is scheduled to take place in Dubai, and the Indian team's preparation for the tournament is in full swing. The uncertainty surrounding Bumrah's participation has added an extra layer of complexity to the team's planning, but the BCCI is confident that it has enough depth in its squad to cope with any eventuality.
